Alum Rock Park Hike, 11/5/17 by Ronald Horii
This hike was on Sunday, 11/5/17:
Family Nature Walk at Alum Rock Park "Join docent Joan for a gentle nature walk from the visitor center toward the Sycamore Grove, through the mysterious mineral springs. Learn about the plants and critters that live in our open spaces and see a historic location up close. The walk to Sycamore Grove will be gently paced. After this portion, you will have the option of taking a slow-paced walk up the steep Sycamore Switchbacks Trail to the top of the South Rim Trail where you will hike to the end and then head back down to return to your starting point. This portion, although slow-paced, is not suited for strollers due to the steepness."
Hike leaders were Santa Clara Valley Open Space Authority (OSA) docents Joan Murphy and Stephen Rosenthal. This event is one of many city park hikes led by Open Space Authority docents in a partnership between city parks and the OSA. The City of San Jose owns Alum Rock Park. The Open Space Authority owns neighboring Sierra Vista Open Space preserve.
