"Wonderful Wetlands" Walk, Coyote Valley OSP, 10/1/17 by Ronald Horii
On 10/1/17, this event was held at Coyote Valley Open Space Preserve: "Wonderful Wetlands: Come learn about the local seasonal wetlands and our South Valley Meadow Wetlands restoration project at Coyote Valley. Talk with enthusiastic docents and learn all about the importance of these areas and how they relate to our well-being. Learn about the animals who thrive here and the plants they depend on."
It was led by docent Cynthia, with help from educational aide Chris and another docent (me).

This is a part of Coyote Valley Open Space Preserve that is not open to the public. There are no trails in this sensitive and fragile part of the preserve. We had to walk carefully through the tall grass and fields of fragrant tarweed. If you want to tour this area, contact the Open Space Authority and ask for a docent-guided tour.

The Winter 2016 OSA Newsletter talks about the wetlands restoration project: https://www.openspaceauthority.org/system/documents/OSA%20Outlook%20Winter%202016.pdf
The Spring 2017 newsletter shows how the wetlands looked this spring:

The purpose of the 8.5-acre project is to restore wetlands to a part of the park that was altered with agricultural drainage ditches when it was used as ranchland. It captures streamwater and allows it to flow slowly over the valley floor and percolate into the ground. The goal is to improve habitat for native plants and wildlife, as well as helping to recharge underground aquifers and reduce flood risk.
