Tarantula Hike, Rancho Canada del Oro 9/10/17 by Ronald Horii
It was over 90 degrees on Sunday Sept. 10, 2017. There was a tarantula hike scheduled at Rancho Canada del Oro. It was led by docent Paul Billig, with help from docents Joan Murphy and me. We met at the Rancho Canada del Oro staging area, where Paul gave a talk about tarantulas. We then took a slow walk along the Longwall Canyon Trail in Calero, looking for tarantulas. Luckily, most of the route was shady. However, the heat kept the tarantulas under cover. We didn't see any going out. We hiked into Canada del Oro and went as far as the Catamount Trail, then turned around. On the way back, we spotted one tarantula. Here are the pictures.
