California Oak Ramble, Coyote Valley OSP, 7/13/17 by Ronald Horii
On 7/13/17, there was a hike at Coyote Valley Open Space Preserve, called "California Oak Ramble." It was led by Chris, who is with the Open Space Authority. He had help from an OSA docent (me).
Chris previously led an oak-themed hike at Guadalupe Oak Grove Park:

He likened different species of trees to characters from the legend of Robin Hood. At Coyote Valley, we had one oak species that was not present at Guadalupe Oak Grove, the black oak. This is how the hike was listed:
DESCRIPTION
Oak trees are famous as strong survivors. In California, these trees endure harsh conditions to live long lives and dominate their environment. Like characters in a movie, each species of oak is strong in its own unique way and uses this strength to make its home in a different neck of the woods.
Come join us on a moderate walk to meet these remarkable characters in a typical section of California Oak Woodland and learn how their unique strengths help them thrive where they choose to live.
Using a well-known tale from English folklore, we will explore the relationship between each species’ characteristics and its preferred location.
