South Bay Fishing in the City, Ed Levin, 6/11/17 by Ronald Horii
South Bay Fishing in the City is a program established in 1995 to teach kids how to fish. It is a partnership between the California Department of Fish & Wildlife, Rotary International, San Jose Parks, and Santa Clara County Parks. At Ed Levin, the event is put on by Fish & Wildlife and County Parks staff and volunteers. Many of the volunteers are with the Bay Area Sportsfishers Club (http://bayareasportfishers.com/volunteering.php).

It's free and for kids only. All gear is provided. The kids don't need to bring anything, except their parents. They need to come before 10:00 to make sure they get the classes and have time to fish. The event starts at 8:00 and runs until noon. They get fishing gear, are instructed on how to cast and tie knots, and pick up bait. They go out to fish on the lake. Volunteers help net and take the fish off the hooks. There's a cleaning station where the fish are cleaned afterwards.

The latest event was held at Sandy Wool Lake in Ed R. Levin County Park in Milpitas. The lake was planted with 800 lbs of catfish for the kids to catch. There were previous events held here in the spring, when trout were planted. Here's more information:
