Plein Air Art Contest, Martial Cottle Park, 5/6/17 by Ronald Horii
There was a plein air art contest held at Martial Cottle Park. Plein air means painting what you see. Artists brought their art materials and painted subjects outdoors within the park. The theme was "The Valley of Heart's Delight." There were two parts to the contest. One was a quick draw competition, where artists had 2 hours to paint a picture. The other was a regular plein air competition, where artists had 2 weeks to do the work. The works were done in a variety of media, including oil, acrylic, and watercolor. Judging was by a panel of judges, with input from the public, online and at the Spring Celebration. The artwork was on display at the County Building downtown and at the spring festival, where these pictures were taken. Awards were given out. Winners were invited to present their work at the County Board of Supervisors meeting on June 5. The pictures below are from the Martial Cottle Park Spring Celebration on 5/6/17.

The artwork is great and the judging must have been difficult with so many fine works.
