Rocky Ridge Trail, Santa Teresa Park, 4/30/17 by Ronald Horii
On 4/30/17, I went for a hike on the Rocky Ridge Trail to Coyote Peak. The Rocky Ridge Trail is a great wildflower trail, but it's a bit past the peak of the wildflower season. The top of the trail is serpentine, so it gets the most wildflowers, but there is a wide variety of flowers along the lower portions. The area around the trail has been grazed by cattle, which was intended to reduce the among of non-native grasses to allow for more growth of native wildflowers. I went to see the effects of the cattle grazing. It looks like they have reduced the amount of grass considerably, but this season's rain was so heavy that the grass growth may have exceeded the ability of the cattle to eat them down. — at Santa Teresa County Park. (near Santa Teresa County Park)
