Restoring Farmland in the Snoqualmie Valley от King Conservation District
In support of initiatives to increase local food production KCD and the King County Agricultural Drainage Assistance Program (ADAP) are collaborating on major projects to assist farmers with recovering from the impacts of seasonal flooding. The goal is to restore production on hundreds of acres across King County that have become too wet to farm.
With the support of funding from the King County Flood Control District, in early September KCD and King County implemented an ADAP project at Goose and Gander Farm in the Snoqualmie Valley.
The project included excavating an estimated 410 cubic yards of accumulated silt that had clogged more than 1,400 linear feet of drainage channels. In addition, a 480 feet long 12-inch culvert was replaced to improve drainage on a prime farm field. The project will return ten acres to production that were too wet to farm, and will enhance production on many more acres.
