I went on an SCCOSA hike to Coyote Ridge on Sunday. The wildflowers were incredible. I saw more bay checkerspot butterflies, which are a federally-protected threatened species, than I've ever seen before. The combination of serpentine soil and cattle grazing to keep the non-native grasses short combine to make a spectacular wildflower show, and one of the few places in the world where the bay checkerspot butterfly can thrive.

Ron, this is wonderful. I love all the notes and the explanatory essay at the beginning was so clear and informative. There are some really great photos, like the lichen and wildflower covered rock. And the wildflower names! Great things to roll your tongue around!
