I refuse to justify what kind of diabetes I have....it doesn't matter at all.....it comes from nowhere or some kind of poison administered to us through something we have in common

I have been diabetic since I was 5. One thing I can say is that it is manageable BUT I cannot stress enough how hard it is. I've had it for 16 years. This September will be 17 years with diabetes. It hasn't been smooth or easy for me at all. I've been sick so many times and it's frustrating when nobody really understands and everyone asks why can't you control it. I can but its actually really hard. One day is peachy next day it's out of control for something as simple as stress or maybe I'm coming down with a cold. Whatever the case may be. I just thank God that for as long as I've been diabetic I'm still doing okay given that there was a point where my A1C was 16!! When it should be >7. Just to point out there are different types. Mine being type 1 where it was not preventable. And how everyone manages it is definitely different from one another. So before you can go on saying "well I know someone who..." Or "well you or you're mother should've ..." ✋🏼 save your breath. Everyone's journey with diabetes is different from one another. Thank you. 😊

Please remember that there are two types of diabetes. My son's diabetes did not result from anything that he ate/didn't eat. He has Type 1 which is an autoimmune disease. He is healthy and active but he will not "BEAT" HIS diabetes. We hope in the future a cure will be found and his pancreas will produce his own insulin but until then we manage his diabetes. As the WHO are educating people about diabetes please include the differences.

However, teach them about eating certain things in moderation, avoiding using junk food for punishment and reward and trusting your child's appetite lead to a healthy and balanced approach to food that will stay with them for life.

The main thing that encourages diabetes is obesity. I'm from Canada and a month ago, the Canadian dollar was really low which meant really high prices for fruits and vegetables, and some people go to the cheap alternative, junk foods. We need to encourage better eating habits and also supporting those with diabetes.
