Rancho San Vicente Hike, 4/24/16 by Ronald Horii
The last Rancho San Vicente (Calero) public hike in April was held on April 24. There was a large group that included 9 Girl Scouts. This was the largest group we've had so far. Unfortunately, it was past the peak of the wildflower bloom, but there were still lots of wildflowers out, including some that weren't out earlier in the season. It was a clear day, so we got great views. It was sunny, but breezy, so it was good weather for hiking. Cait Hutnik and I led the hike. I took point. Cait swept. We hiked up to the overlook of the Casa Grande, saw the new trail cut, then hiked back.

Here are past pictures of Rancho San Vicente from this year:
Docent preview hike, with Cait Hutnik and Woody Collins, 3/11/16, a little before the peak of the wildflower bloom: https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.1063917636965091.1073742024.100000405933924&type=1&l=1849dc1373

Public hike on 4/3/16, just about at the peak of the wildflower bloom. It started out overcast and didn't fully clear up, so the view was limited, but the wildflowers were awesome. We split up into 2 groups. Cait took her group on a shorter hike. I took my group on a longer hike to the overlook of Calero:

Public hike on 4/17/16, just a little past the peak of the wildflower bloom, but there were lots of them out. While Cait led most of the group on a short hike, I led 2 people out to the overlook of Calero and were rewarded with an awesome view. It was a very clear day, so we had views all the way to Marin County:

Earth Day Trail Work Day, 4/23/16, the first public trail work event in Rancho San Vicente, and hopefully the first of many. Finally, after years of meetings, planning, and waiting for permits, construction on the Rancho San Vicente trails began last week, a few days after our 4/17 hike. There was a large group of volunteers, including Santa Clara County Sheriffs cadets.
