Coyote Lake Wildflower Walk 3/21/15, Part 1 by Ronald Horii
On 3/21/15, I went on a wildflower hike at Coyote Lake/Harvey Bear County Park. We met at the dam. The hike was led by Senior Ranger Chris Crockett. There was a large Meetup group on the hike. We went up the Harvey Bear Trail to the Calaveras Trail. I took a lot of pictures on this hike, so I divided it into 3 sections. This is the first section, which ends at the wildflower hotspot on the Calaveras Trail. Part 2 covers the Coyote Ridge and Ed Willson Trails: https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.1052197738137081.1073742014.100000405933924&type=1&l=a96fb97ecf
Part 3 covers my solo hike back to the wildflower hotspot on the Calaveras Trail: https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.1052199718136883.1073742015.100000405933924&type=1&l=cec9612d7b
The Calaveras Trail is the best wildflower trail in the park and one of the best among all the County Parks. Its secret is that it runs through a large area of serpentine soil. What's the secret of serpentine? See: http://www.natureoutside.com/wildflowers-of-the-serpentine-realm/ (this looks like the same hike I was on).
