Rio Olympics - Day 13 by Robert Hanashiro
It has been a looooog time since I covered boxing --- professional or Olympic ("amateur") boxing. I guess the two days I shot boxing at the Beijing Olympics might be the last time.

I have always said that boxing is the hardest sport to get THAT photo ... glove on face. (The equivalent of "ball on bat" which I am also not very good at.)

Knowledge of the sport, timing and a bit of good luck all play into getting good boxing action. Also some creative cropping can go a long way to make an average photo into something fairly interesting (my stock and trade).

Hopefully after looking at some many "swings and misses" from today will get me ready for my final assignment of the Rio Olympics ... boxing on Saturday.

Thanks for looking!

And thanks to my good buddies Robert Deutsch and Jack Gruber for keeping me in good humor and for keeping me sane...so far. Special thanks to Mark Suban and the Nikon Professionl Services crew for their support here in Rio. And thanks to NPS for being a part of THE coolest sports photography event of the year... Sports Shooter Academy 13.

(Ans be kind ... Deutsch and I kinda like Outback Steakhouse!)

It's the first time I've shot amateur boxing without the headgear!
(The women boxers still wear the protective header.)
