#NationalPieDay 9/11 Pie Box Lids von 9/11 Tribute Museum
After September 11, 2001 many individuals from around the world found ways to respond to the tragedy. While eating apple pie and watching the news, Cheryl Boyle of Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island had a strong desire to do something. She decided to send pies to the recovery workers in New York. Cheryl organized her neighbors and local businesses to bake 232 apple pies.
In cooperation with Nino’s Restaurant, which had been converted it into a place of refuge for police, firefighters, and the many, many rescue workers, the pies were delivered on October 5th, 2001, each in a pie box that had been decorated by elementary school children from Tracadie Cross and East Royalty schools in her hometown. It took 66 pounds of flour, 20 blocks of shortening and over 300 pounds of apples to make the pies and everything that was needed had been donated. Happy #NationalPieDay everyone!
A huge thank you to our partners at The New York State Museum (https://www.facebook.com/nysmuseum) for providing us with this wonderful story.
