ACDP KZN Premier Candidate & PEC go Door to Door for Workers Day by ACDP
KwaZulu-Natal: Jo-Ann Downs, (MPL) who is the Premier Candidate for the ACDP in the Province, spent Worker’s Day going door to door and canvassing in the streets of Folweni, Felekisi, Adams Mission, iLovu, Welbedacht West, Damat and Progress Road. Downs was joined by ACDP Youth Chairman, Ntokozo Zama, along with a team of local community branch leaders and some PEC members. Downs said she was encouraged by young and old voters who were hoping for change. Residents of the community were excited to engage directly with the MPL, in their own houses. Downs and Zama have done work in the Durban South regions, and these areas have large ACDP Branches of hundreds of members. Downs said going door to door was definately one of the better sides of Politics and she said she remembers her first election as an ACDP member, going into KwaMakhuta and Bekhulwandle to hand out Pamphlets in 1994. She said she was concerned that there was a lot that still had not changed for people. Downs said: “It is heartbreaking that some houses in area’s I visited 20 years ago, still do not have electricity. These are houses with young children, and a problem in these areas is that parafin stoves and candles often get knocked over and houses are burned to the ground. Downs said in her work over the last few years, she has seen many children with burn wounds. “These are areas that are close to Urban centres, and so they supposedly get better services”.

Downs said her party would boost small businesses, and empower informal traders, she would work hard to increase tourism to KZN, a province that has world heritage sights, rich culture, mountain ranges and beautiful beaches. Downs identified these as sectors that could create jobs and absorb unskilled labour in the shorter term. Downs said her main focus would be skills development and Education to improve the lives of the 48% of those living in poverty in KZN. She said this would take time, but her party was committed to the hard work this would take.

ACDP Candidate Gloria Naidoo is also well known in the Demat and Welbedact West area, and was also excited to have an MPL visiting and going door to door. Other ACDP PEC members were leading canvassing teams were working in Pongola, Ncotshane, Vryheid, Nquthu, and Kwadakuza over workers day. — in Adams Mission, South Africa. (near Adams Mission, South Africa)
