This is ridiculous! I don't care what time of the hour it is you can see when you drive, or you don't need to be driving because that mean you are blind. That is insane that we make excuses for the intentional actions people make due to them being on their phones or not paying attention significantly at all when driving. Our kids will continue to die in the hands of drivers until major consequences are put in place for their lives. Interrogation questioning, vision tests and lie detector tests need to be in place as well. Too many people are getting off on killing kids by vehicles and stating they didn't see them. Those are lies when you were able to see when you got in your vehicle and operate that vehicle. We have to do better as a country. This is not justice for our kids in this country!

The school needs to rethink having kids come in at 5:30 in the morning, when it is still dark, for football practice. My condolences to his family.

The big issue here is the hour they are having young people arrive at school for sport practice. As a teacher, I know practice can be set up for 7:00 AM. They should not be walking or riding a bike in the dark. Texas wants to control so many aspects of a student’s life health care and library books. This is devastating to two families and so unnecessary! This is tragic for both families. Sending deepest sympathies.

And stuff like this keeps happening because people don’t care and pay attention. Rare that I seen any patrolling by the middle school and on Wilmeth Rd in front McKinney North drivers are careless and drive like nascars on that road.

Not even a citation? I’m not criticizing anybody here or blaming anything but if our local PD did their part not questioning the driver and releasing them. I doubt the system will hold the driver accountable Texas is very lenient.

My heart and prayer goes out to this boy’s parents. This just needs to stop I’m a parent and this just scares me. Hopefully something good comes out of this investigation

"was struck" this passive language contributes to victim blaming and upholds negative attitudes toward cyclists. the PD is acting as an apologist for this driver by claiming they stopped to render aid while purposefully omitting relevant and newsworthy information regarding the motivations or distractions that led to the collision. it's possible that the cyclist came out so distracted and suddenly that a collision was inevitable, but that's not being claimed here. read police communication critically, asking yourself what information is being OMITTED as well as what is being given, and it's clear what systems they uphold versus who is disposable. how could this statement been written differently to better advocate for the life and dignity of the cyclist? (a cyclist whose life is valuable and who btw PD has also sworn to protect)
