MAGIC HAS BIG NEWS COMING SOON... We've known Magic for 8 months now, and have loved every second. He's taught us how to face tragedy with resilience, love and forgiveness. Magic, a 10-month-old German Shepherd puppy, was rescued by our friends at Louisville Metro Animal Services in January after suffering a gunshot wound to his head. The bullet entered above his eye, went through his nasal cavity, and passed through his tongue – before breaking his lower jaw. The way the bullet was angled, we can only assume that Magic was looking up at his abuser when he was shot. The Kentucky Humane Society’s skilled veterinary team performed emergency surgery to close his wounds, remove fragments of bone and teeth, and repair his tongue. Magic's diet consisted of baby food before we were very slowly able to integrate him to eating soft puppy food since his shattered jaw made eating so painful. Our vet team monitored his progress, cheering him on with every small step he made.
Once Magic was stable and eating on his own, he entered a loving foster home with a KHS staff member. There he was able to begin healing from not only his physical injuries, but also his emotional ones. He underwent another dental surgery to remove the remaining bone fragments in his jaw. Most impressively, Magic showed us that his loving, attentive personality has no bounds, despite all that he's suffered at the hands of humans. He greets friends and strangers alike with kisses, and happily trots around with his favorite toys all day long. Finally, Magic feels like a normal dog again!
We are so grateful that Magic came to KHS, where he received the lifesaving care he desperately needed. Thanks to your support, Magic is now happy, healthy and ready to put his past behind him. He will soon enter his furever home, where he will be spoiled rotten for the rest of his days. Thank you for supporting Magic's trek on the road to recovery.
