Yesterday dozens of Vallejo residents gathered to honor the life of Willie “Bo” McCoy, a 20-year-old rapper who was shot and killed by Vallejo police after he was found slumped over with his car still running in the Taco Bell drive-thru. When arriving to the scene, police say they looked inside the car and saw a handgun sitting on the driver’s lap. When McCoy suddenly woke up surrounded by police, police say he made a motion toward the gun. Six officers shot into the car in an what family members said to be like an “execution firing squad.” It has not been reported how many bullets were fired. Yesterday family members told me that police did not follow the correct protocol before firing and that they could have removed the gun, even though his doors were locked, the front passenger window was replaced by plastic, which could have been torn. Everyone I met was either long-time friends or family of McCoy and told me he was a good-hearted young man who did not deserve to die. #WillieMcCoy #sayhisname #vallejopolice
