When you delete your account, your profile, photos, videos, comments, likes and followers will be permanently removed. You can also choose to take a break and temporarily deactivate your account instead.

Temporarily deactivate your Instagram account

If you temporarily deactivate your account, your profile, photos, comments and likes will be hidden until you reactivate it by logging back in. You can only deactivate your Instagram account from a computer, a mobile browser or the Instagram app for iPhone.
Bear in mind that you can only deactivate your account once a week.
Temporarily deactivate your account from your Instagram app
1.
Log in to instagram.com from a mobile browser.
2.
Tap your profile picture in the bottom right and tap Profile, then tap Edit profile.
3.
Scroll down, then tap Temporarily deactivate my account in the bottom right.
4.
Select an option from the drop-down menu next to Why are you deactivating your account? and re-enter your password. The option to deactivate your account will only appear after you've selected a reason from the menu and entered your password.
5.
Tap Temporarily deactivate account. Tap Yes to confirm or No to cancel.
You'll need to be able to log in to your account to temporarily deactivate it. If you can't remember your password or username, take a look at some tips for logging in.
If you don't want to deactivate your account, but want to change who can see it, you can set your posts to private or block people.
Note: Follow these instructions if you'd like to delete your Instagram account.

1.
Tap
at the top.
2.
Tap See more in Accounts Centre, then tap Personal details.
3.
Tap Account ownership and control, then tap Deactivation or deletion.
4.
Tap the account that you'd like to temporarily deactivate.
5.
Tap Deactivate account, then tap Continue.
Note: You may not be able to deactivate your account from Accounts Centre at this time.

Delete your Instagram account

When you delete your account, your Profile, photos, videos, comments, likes and followers will be permanently removed. If you'd just like to take a break, you can temporarily deactivate your account instead.
For security reasons, we can't delete an account for you. You'll need to be able to log in to your account to request deletion. If you can't remember your password or username, take a look at some tips for logging in.
Before deleting your account, you may want to log in and download a copy of your information (such as your photos and posts) from Instagram. After your account has been deleted, you will not have access to Instagram's Data Download tool.
To request the permanent deletion of your account from your mobile browser:
1.
Go to the Delete your account page. If you aren't logged in to Instagram on the web, you'll be asked to log in first.
2.
Select an option from the drop-down menu below Why do you want to delete [account name]? and re-enter your password. The option to permanently delete your account will only appear after you've selected a reason from the menu and entered your password.
3.
Tap Delete [username].
If you'd like to delete a different account:
1.
Tap the username in the top right of the Delete your account page.
2.
Tap
next to Edit profile and select Log out.
3.
Log back in as the account that you want to delete and follow the directions above.
To permanently delete your account from Accounts Centre:
1.
Tap
at the top.
2.
Tap See more in Accounts Centre, then tap Personal details.
3.
Tap Account ownership and control, then tap Deactivation or deletion.
4.
Tap the account that you'd like to permanently delete.
5.
Tap Delete account, then tap Continue.
Note: You may not be able to deactivate your account from Accounts Centre at this time.
After your account has been deleted, you can sign up again with the same username or add that username to another account as long as it hasn't been taken by a new person on Instagram.
Bear in mind that if your account has been removed for violating Community Guidelines, you may not be able to sign up again with the same username.
After 30 days of your account deletion request, your account and all your information will be permanently deleted, and you won't be able to retrieve your information. During those 30 days, the content remains subject to Instagram's Terms of Use and Privacy Policy and is not accessible to other people using Instagram.
It may take up to 90 days to complete the deletion process after it begins. Copies of your content may remain after the 90 days in backup storage that we use to recover in the event of a disaster, software error or other data loss event. We may also keep your information for things such as legal issues, terms violations or harm prevention efforts. Learn more about this in our Privacy Policy.
Access and download your information on Instagram

Access and download your information on Instagram

You may not have access to this setting in Accounts Centre at this time. If you don't see this setting under Your information and permissions in Accounts Centre, try accessing this setting through your Instagram settings.
You're in control of your information on Instagram. You can view your account information or download a copy of your information on Instagram at any time.
Review your information in Accounts Centre:
1.
Tap your profile picture in the bottom right to go to your profile.
2.
Tap
at the top.
3.
Tap See more in Accounts Centre, then tap Your information and permissions.
4.
Tap View your information.
You can also access this setting through your Instagram settings.
Review your information in your Instagram settings:
1.
Tap your profile picture in the bottom right to go to your profile.
2.
Tap
at the top.
3.
Tap Your activity.
4.
Tap Account history.
5.
From here, you may be able to make additional changes by tapping on the change.
6.
To filter your account history, tap Sort and filter at the top and select your sorting preferences or the date range, then tap Apply.
Downloading a copy of your information on Instagram
If you want a copy of everything that you've shared on Instagram, you can request a download of your information in a machine-readable HTML or JSON format. You'll need your Instagram account password to request this information. Learn more if you've forgotten your password or can't log in.
Download a copy of your information in Accounts Centre:
You can download your information by going directly to Your information and permissions settings in Accounts Centre. Or you can follow these instructions:
1.
Tap your profile picture in the bottom right to go to your profile.
2.
Tap
in the top right.
3.
Tap Accounts Centre, then tap Your information and permissions.
4.
Tap Download your information, then tap Download or transfer information.
5.
Select the profiles that you'd like to download information from.
6.
Tap Next.
7.
Select how much information you want to download and tap Next.
8.
Choose whether you want to download your information to a device or directly transfer your information to a destination, and tap Next.

If you select Transfer to destination, you can choose the destination and schedule future transfers. Note: When you choose a destination, you may be prompted to sign in to the destination's app or website.

Once you've selected the destination and frequency, tap Start transfer. You will be prompted to enter your Instagram password.
9.
If you select Download to device, choose your file options:

The date range

The notification email

The format of your download request.

The quality of photos, videos and other media.
10.
Tap Create files.
You can also access this setting through your Instagram settings.
Download a copy of your information in your Instagram settings:
1.
Tap your profile picture in the bottom right to go to your profile.
2.
Tap
in the top right.
3.
Tap Your activity.
4.
Tap Download your information.
5.
Tap Download or transfer information.
6.
Select the profiles that you'd like to download information from.
7.
Tap Next.
8.
Select how much information you want to download and tap Next.
9.
Choose whether you want to download your information to a device or directly transfer your information to a destination, and tap Next.

If you select Transfer to destination, you can choose the destination and schedule future transfers. Note: When you choose a destination, you may be prompted to sign in to the destination's app or website.

Once you've selected the destination and frequency, tap Start transfer. You will be prompted to enter your Instagram password.

Tap Create files.
Note: It may take up to 30 days for us to email you a download link. Some information that you have deleted may be stored temporarily for safety and security purposes, but will not appear when you access or download your information.
