About
We are a charity that aims to encourage the British media to treat transgender people with accuracy, dignity and respect. We work with regulators, tv and press, civil service and government. Our website is at Morewww.transmediawatch.org. If you're trans and are considering appearing in the media, or you work in the media and are thinking of covering trans issues, we urge you to visit it.

The purpose of our Facebook group is to collect information about instances of prejudice against trans people in the media, and to provide information about our work. We welcome help in identifying problems and working toward solutions.

Views expressed on this page do not necessarily represent those of Trans Media Watch.

If you witness inaccurate or offensive representation of trans people in the UK media, we encourage you to contact the organisation responsible direct. We can offer guidance on how to do so. Alternatively if you would like us to do so on your behalf please email us at info@transmediawatch.org

If you are a trans person who has been approached by the media to sell your story, contact us for free advice or read the guidelines on our website.

If you are a member of the media who needs assistance in ensuring your piece is trans-friendly, straightforward guidance is also available on our website. Or get in touch via email. We would love to help.

Please keep your posts relevant to the group aims, respect other views and play nice. We want this to be a safe space for everyone so personal attacks are not allowed and neither is discrimination against other minority groups. If you want to quote somebody from this group, please think carefully before you do so and make sure you are not passing on personal information inappropriately. We keep this an open group so it's easy for you to use but we still expect users to respect others' boundaries.

Any user trolling or deliberately insulting other users will be warned and then permanently banned.

Any user posting links to pornographic websites or inappropriate content will be banned immediately without warning.

Any posts relating to advertising that is not relevant and on topic to the purposes of TMW will be deleted.

Any user starting debates on trans "labels" and "identity" will be warned and the post deleted. Repeated posts will result in the user being banned. This is because this is TMW's page and not a trans forum. There are other places on the internet for such debates, not our page.

The admins and moderators decisions on the content of posts is final. Anyone arguing or challenging these decisions will be warned once then banned. This is to ensure the integrity of the group and its contents.

THIS GROUP IS NOW CLOSED. SEE BELOW FOR ALTERNATIVES.

This forum has now come close to reaching the 3,000 person limit that Facebook allows. We have a long queue of people wanting to join and we don't want toMore have to turn people away. Because of this, and because this has proven to be a tough place to moderate to everyone's satisfaction, we have chosen to close this group and launch two new alternatives.

The first is a Facebook page, which you can like and post to here:-

https://www.facebook.com/transmediawatch

The second is a forum on our website, which should allow for much more flexibility in the type of things you post. You can find it here:

Thank you for all of your contributions here over the years. We hope you will bear with us throgh these changes and enjoy the new spaces we have to offer.

The moderation team here have been concerned for some time about the tone and content of some posts here.

TMW was intentionally formed as an inclusive and constructive forum to enable us to engage positively with media professionals to change the way trans and intersex issues are reported. As a result we have (or had) quite a few industryMore professionals who would log into the page and watch conversations to learn more about different viewpoints.

In recent months there has been a significant increase in the number of posts which are exclusive, dogmatic, rude and insensitive. Several people have commented to members of the moderation team that the TMW page has become a hostile and argumentative… More

Hey all,

I promised I'd update everyone with information about my play Rachael's Cafe - Play once everything was confirmed, so here we go! The play has had previous runs in Edinburgh, Dublin and Brighton butMore this is its first official London run and we are very excited.

It's based on interviews with a close trans friend of mine who lives in Indiana, USA. It's a project that's married my love of theatre and her wish to combat the way that transgender people are portrayed in the media and in public in general.

I very much hope people from this group will be interested in coming to see it. As always feedback and help is appreciated. We are looking to run post-show events so if anyone has any… More
