Problem & Project:
Plastic Pollution as per Ministry of Environment, India generates 16000 ton/day out of which only 9000 ton/ day being collected and the remaining pollutes the soil, clogs drains, pollutes… Más waters and kills the animals with its indigestive nature. It is evident that improper handling of solid waste and indiscriminate disposal in open spaces, road margins, tank beds, and etcetera, give rise to numerous potential risks to the environment and to human health. Direct health risks mainly concern those working in the field without using proper gloves, uniforms, and etcetera; a high percentage of waste workers and individuals who live near or on disposal sites are infected with gastrointestinal parasites, worms, and related organisms. As per Ministry of Environment, India generates 16000 ton/day out of which only 9000 ton/day being collected and the remaining pollutes the soil, clogs drains, pollutes waters and kills the animals with its indigestive nature. In this light, India Youth For Society (IYFS) proposes a Recycling Project with the following three effects:
a) Awareness about the hazards created by discarded plastics; the team defines ‘awareness’ as behavioural change of plastics consumption (plastics consumption to be reduced).
b) Available Alternatives to the Disposable Plastics would be highlighted through various activities involving citizens and enforcement agencies. Cloth bags, paper bags, and steel items to be available and promoted.
c) Collection and Proper Handling of Plastic Waste, Recycling Process & Production of New plastic Items.
Vision Statement:
To make every Indian responsible for maintaining the integrity of the environment as a whole-life system so that our children have a fresh air, clean water and long life.
Mission Statement:
We are committed to ask for individuals’ effort to keep our surroundings free from air & noise pollution, plastic pollution and land pollution. We are also committed to learn and teach people about waste management and proper use of water & energy.
Short History:
August 2010, Visakhapatnam: What started as casual conversations between a teacher and a group of students became a source of inspiration for the youngsters and ignited their passion towards protecting the Earth and its resources. They formed a group which later came to be known as ‘India Youth For Society (IYFS). A few like-minded students joined them giving strength to their campaigns.
