This group is for voice talent and clients alike who are looking for more information about the industry. Discussions should be primarily industry related such as best hiring practices, tips on better sound quality, submissions for feedback, and how to market yourself to clients.

Posts submitted to this group will be periodically reviewed and may be deleted should they not directly related to "voice over" in some way. Members who consistently only post unrelated or promotional content will also be removed.

Getting to Know Your Voice

You don't have to wait for your first voice acting class to get acquainted with your voice. The best way to get familiar with your vocal abilities is to start by reading and recording your voice.

Try these activities as a starting point:

- Read a children's book out loud and try to create a unique voice for each character

-… Plus Grab an item from your pantry or cupboard and read the list of ingredients (repeat until those complex chemical names are second-nature!)

- Read newspaper articles out loud and change your tone from informative to conversational mid-way through

- Read an old journal entry out loud (or write out a new one) so you can get a sense of what you sound like when you're being 'you'

Now, record yourself doing those exercises. The playback will reveal a lot!

Can anyone recommend an excellent company to do some professional demos with - on line? Im British and prefer to work with someone British as I find the American scripts dont always resonate so well. I have my… Plus own studio and just need guidance and scripts that work well with my voice , plus backing tracks ( music /sfx etc). Much appreciated . Thank you
