About Faites Vos Jeux
In the wake of the financial and economic crises of recent years, Europe sees itself confronted with a number of challenges – empty state coffers, insolvent banks, a growing divide between the northern and southern countries, and a rise in youth unemployment. Given the decline in job prospects, Europe is witnessing an increase in work-related migration and EU skepticism among its young people.
Therefore, 20 young participants, aged 18 to 30, from Portugal and Germany are invited to a seven-day, professionally led workshop to share their ideas on pressing current issues related to the EU as part of an intercultural team and to develop appropriate game ideas.
The project Faites vos jEUx is an initiative of the Goethe-Institut e.V., realized in cooperation with its partners, the Munich-based JFF – Institute for Media Education as well as ARISCO – Organization to Promote Health and Social Integration and Associação Mais cidadania in Portugal with support of the Youth in Action Programme by the European Commission.
The participants gain insight into the mechanisms of game design and into the game designer culture – with the goal of developing games themselves. The workshop is aimed at young Europeans between the age of 18 and 30 who are searching for new experiences during a stage in their lives when they are trying to figure out what to do for a job or career. The participants have the opportunity to deal with controversial EU topics and integrate them into their game ideas. In an intercultural environment, they are able to share creative ideas, network with each other, and gain new perspectives for the future.
During local preparatory meetings, the participants get to know each other and gain some initial exposure to the topic. The actual workshop focuses on the collaborative development of gaming concepts. The most convincing ideas are developed further and, if possible, realized under the guidance of professionals. At the conclusion of the workshop, all participants receive a YouthPass – a certificate issued by the European Union – that documents the skills they have acquired. Last but not least, there is time to explore the Bavarian capital.
