Euromaidan page was created in an attempt to quickly reach English-speaking international audience and deliver up-to-date news from the Maidan (the Kiyv’s Independence Square) and all regions of Ukraine.
Euromaidan movement began in November 21, 2013 with public protests demanding reforms that were caused by the disruption of Ukraine’s European integration. Since then, the protest movement has been simmering for months. Some key points of these months are (1) Victor Yanukovych is an ousted president and on the Wanted list; (2) New temporary government has been formed; (3) Return to the 2004 Constitution which shifts much of the president’s power to the country’s parliament; (4) About 100 activist were shot dead during the bloodiest events in Kiyv after then-president Yanukovych pushed through anti-legislation laws which banned most forms of protests in the country; (5) Tension in Crimea intensified due to Putin’s (Russian President) orders to Russian army for so-called “military exercises”.
Intrusion into Crimea caused the referendum about the separation of Crimea from Ukraine, which took part on March, 16th, and tension in the Eastern regions which border on with Russia.
