I know the world is scary right now. I wanted to put something out there for people who are struggling to know what to do. I don’t give any answers because seriously... who has ‘em... but I did maybe want to remind everyone of our own agency, even when there’s a crazy ass pandemic raging. Also, feel free to reply in the comments about what you’re thinking and feeling about this gigantic shit show - because it’s nice to not feel alone while the media has us believing that the zombie apocalypse is nigh. The scientific definition of connection is: the shit. And it is... the shit. Not to mention it’s available to all of us. So, instead of grabbing onto your toilet paper like your life depended on a clean ass, grab onto your people instead (whether online or off). It’s a bit of a rush job so I again apologise about it not being super duper pretty but I think it’s more important to get conversation out there than freaking out about design composition.

Oh, the things you can make with almond pulp! Funny story, I made this a year or so ago. Then recently I actually DID make a friend with almond pulp! 😂 After chatting on the interwebs in a local group (the local that I’m fairly new to) me and the delightful @bailey_carroll87 met up for coffee. Before she came she apologised if what she was saying was weird but wondered if I would like some almond meal she’d made because she couldn’t keep up with it. She arrived with an old, repurposed jar full of homemade almond meal left over from her DIY almond milk. It was love at first bite! 😂 the moral of the story? Almond meal is great and so are friends. The end 💃🏼

I used to be forever striving for a #ZeroWaste gold star. I figured that especially since I create stuff to help people go plastic free that I must do it PERFECTLY. No stuff ups. But guess what? I realised that I would become so preoccupied with “doing it perfectly” that I was stressing myself out, setting unrealistic standards for myself (and thus others in my orbit) and losing a lot of brain space and energy in the process 🤯. It was when shitteth really hitteth the fan this year and I became extremely timepoor and overwhelmed by some stressful life events that I decided that enough was enough. I would prefer be imperfect forever rather than short, stressful sprints of perfection 🏃🏼‍♀️ I will always strive for my best, but won’t kill myself trying.

Here are some of my zero-waste-y hacks.
🍋🍊🥕 Submerge citrus + carrots in water to stay fresh for weeks. I cut my 🥕 into lunchbox ready sticks.
🥚Write the date you boiled the eggs on the shell - they can last up to 7 days.
🥦 Use all those containers you have with lost lids to your advantage. Most things love to sit in containers with a damp cloth draped over them.
🥒 Most long things (such a generalisation) stay crisp when rolled in a lightly damp tea towel. Think zucchini, cucumber, parsnips, carrots, beans.
🥫As you see from my larder, I keep a few cans of supplies available. I had once dreamed of this being an entirely package free space. Nowadays, I recognise that as a working mum/wife with two insanely hands on children that it’s good to have things that can make a rushed dinner - pasta sauce, pasta, coconut milk, baked beans 🇬🇧 etc . I also get sprinkles because when I make the healthy cookies/muffins/nice-cream etc, my kids can taste the health + sometimes refuse. Sprinkle a few sparkles on there + they are completely fooled. Suck it, kids - mum is wily!
🌿 Most herbs (not basil, fussy bugger!) like to stand up in a jar of water. A ziplock bag over the top will keep them fresher, longer. Rewash and reuse your sandwich bags, always.
🥬 The last four slides are how I store lettuce to keep it crispy for weeks. Just unroll the towels to take out leaves as you need them.
