To all of us who went to West Rusk High School and were fortunate enough to have had Ms. Clifton for government.
I can remember sitting in her class the day Congress made wearing seat belts mandatory nationally. All I can say is the woman went apoplectic.
My view of government was not mature enough at the time to understand her absolute hatred of the "overreach!" and the "loss of personal liberty!" but as I look at the Texas legislature attempting to make using a cell phone while driving illegal, the memory of Ms. Clifton's raucous response to the stupidity of what she called "little tyrants" comes back ever so clear.
To this day it saddens me that I never told her how much I appreciated her, and how much she influenced me without my knowing it. Oh, how I wish I had.
