In researching a post about European law dealing with euthanasia I found that all countries there allow almost unrestricted abortion, and at least two, Belgium and the Netherlands, allow infant euthanasia.
In the Netherlands a child of 12 can chose to end his/her own life (with physician assistance) and a newborn can have his/her life ended by the parents. While in Belgium the age restriction is now being debated in their Parliament, which is expected to come down on the side of removing all age restrictions.
One of the most disturbing things about this is; the clear language of the law is that "cost of treatment" must be one of the criteria used by the parents and the doctors in determining whether a child lives or dies.
""American bioethicist Jacob M. Appel goes one step further, arguing that pediatric euthanasia may be ethical even in the ABSENSE OF PARENTAL CONSENT".
Bioethicists Alberto Giubilini and Francesca Minerva argue that killing a newborn "should be permissible in ALL THE CASES where abortion is, including cases where the newborn is NOT DISABLED". With the use of "cost of treatment" as a criteria, these "ethicists" feel that EITHER a Dr. OR the parents can decide to euthanize (kill) an infant if abortion had been an option, even if the child is NOT disabled. And, in cases of disability, to determine that based on such things as how much it will cost to treat the child.
Do you know that just a few decades ago ALL these countries had laws against abortion?
Once a society begins to choose which folks have a right to live and which do not, "ethics" and "morality" are no longer a part of the foundation of that society, and the slide into depravity will not slow of its own accord.
Choose wisely which side you will be on.
