The liberal majorities in a few large coastal States thought they were so much smarter than those uneducated hicks in the more conservative flyover States that there was simply no way Hillary could lose her bid for the presidency, and the confidence shown by their media was palpable.
And yet she lost - they lost. So now, with their feelings hurt, the left wants to destroy the only protection the smaller States have from becoming irrelevant in a presidential election and ultimately dictated to by a few larger States.
