"This archived website, www.bushcoup.com, was registered on Nov. 1, 2000 by David Lytel (Clinton's White House web guru in the 1990s) and Greg Simon (a longtime Gore aide and campaign strategist). That was 6 days before the election and the contested Florida recount. Gore's decision to contest the 2000 election was not a reaction to an unexpectedly close vote that triggered a recall. It was a planned contingency in the event of a close vote, with a preemptive campaign operation already in place to launch the moment it happened.
