Dipu Ahad is Chair of the Holocaust Memorial Day Committee(HMD) on the Council and I believe he has compromised himself by his recent actions in support of the Palestinians and their terrorist attacks against Israel.
I am a member of the HMD which seeks to promote tolerance and understanding between all groups of people in this City and his public profile is no longer acceptable to myself or other members of the Committee when he seeks to take such a one sided approach.
He appears to show no signs of any sensitivity or empathy with many Jewish people in Newcastle whose families died in the terror of the Holocaust and those survivors who made their homes in Israel where they found protection and peace in a country which Hamas has declared openly it wishes to destroy.
Israel has a moral and legitimate right to defend itself against such virulent aggression
