The Center for the Study of Democracy (CSD) was founded by the Political Science Department and the Institute for Social Studies from Babes-Bolyai University. CSD aims to stimulate theoretical knowledge, research and education that deal with the democratization processes from Romania and other democratizing countries. The projects promoted by CSD emphasize attitudes, values, norms, knowledge and behavior that make democracy work. One distinct element that characterizes the Center is the emphasis on the study of civil society and political culture from Romania. The CSD research agenda contains frequently comparative research that includes ex-Communist countries from Europe and democratizing countries from South-East Asia.
