Throughout the last year and a half, public services have protected, supported and cared for residents across Connecticut. State workers ensured that Connecticut not only survived through the pandemic, but also that our communities can thrive well after the pandemic subsides. Long before COVID-19, public services provided a rare opportunity to lift families into the working-class community, especially communities of color that have been chronically disinvested. Connecticut’s public services build racial and health equity and must be protected through adequate funding. For months now, SEBAC unions representing over 40,000 members like caregivers at CVH and other State Agencies bargained with the Lamont administration to negotiate fair contracts. But almost all of our unions have been met with the same response: unfair contract proposals that will reduce services rather than build back better for our future. Governor Ned Lamont is not fulfilling his public promise of advancing racial equity nor his promise of protecting our most vulnerable populations. If Gov. Lamont is unwilling to invest in these critical services now when the need is growing and the State is flush with money, union workers ask: Will he ever?
