MY USE OF FACEBOOK: As you may have realized or will quickly realize, I am utilizing FB heavily for professional communication, political campaigning, as well as academic and journalistic publishing (rather than reporting my private life). If you are not interested in a stream of links on Russian and Ukrainian politics, international right-wing extremism, post-Soviet higher education reform etc. - please, modify your FB settings so as to receive not all or none of my updates. Otherwise, you may get annoyed by my postings which are mainly intended for colleagues interested in the above topics.

RE: FACEBOOK FRIENDS LIMIT (CHANGE TO SUBSCRIPTION)
Dear esteemed unknown Facebook Friend, I have been told by my more popular acquaintances that the limit for Facebook Friends is 5000. While I am not yet near this limit, I might get there too at some point (I would hope). I have therefore the following request only to those with whom I am NOT personally acquainted and who are NOT social scientists, historians, politicians, diplomats, journalists or activists. My I ask those of you who neither know me personally nor are colleagues in the fields of politics/history to "unfriend" me, and instead become my Facebook Subscriber/Abonnent? You would still see all my activity while I have more space for "befriending" relevant colleagues. Thank you and apologies for this awkward appeal! (Obviously, this request does not concern any personal acquaintances.)

I study contemporary Russian and Ukrainian politics with a focus on the post-Soviet extreme right at the National University of Kyiv - Mohyla Academy (NaUKMA), a small, but prolific Ukrainian higher education institution (http://www.ukma.kiev.ua/ua/faculties/fac_soc/politology/index.php ), and the Eichstaett Institute for Central and East European Studies (ZIMOS), a miniscule, yet productive Bavarian research center focusing on current Russian intellectual history (http://www1.ku-eichstaett.de/ZIMOS/ ). Since 2005, I have been also involved in the creation, in Ukraine, of a new Master's program in German and European Studies administered jointly by Kyiv's Mohyla Academy and Jena's Schiller University (http://www.des.uni-jena.de/ ).
