Are out-of-hours telemarketing calls making you grumpy?

The ACMA has issued penalties totalling $13,600 to a company for making telemarketing calls during prohibited hours and calling numbers on the Do Not Call Register: http://acma.gov.au/theACMA/Newsroom/Newsroom/Media-releases/easymeals-penalised-for-overcooked-telemarketing

I doubt $13k of fines will stop them. Perhaps $130k instead.

It's those government market research callers that annoy me. The ones who already know my name even though I have a silent number and it's on the do not call register.
I'm not sure why Medicare are getting surveys done, all they need to do is read a few social media posts to see what the population think, instead of calling at dinner time.
It's not fair that they are exempt from calling

I unplugged my home phone because the only calls I was getting we're from Surveys haha, and scam calls.

Although my number is on the Do Not Call list, due to your anti spam exemption for Not-Profits, I am now receiving weekly phone calls from 'Charities' (or agents working for a profit on behalf of charities) and these claim they have identified my number through a random-number generator. Whilst I recognise the need for charities to find ways to raise funds, this is a blatent abuse of my right to privacy and freedom from trespass against my personal communication channels. Your organisation needs to ensure: (1) Any number on the do not call list can not be called without permission, regardless of the charity status of an organisation (except for legal purposes), (2) Third-party, profitable organisations to be considered commercial entities rather than adopting the not-profit status of their clients and (3) Remove the exemption from the anti-spam act for not-profits and ensure they cannot use personal communication channels (eg private phone numbers on the do not call register, 'silent' emails - once you support such a thing, or silent home addresses) for marketing or funds-raising purposes. Today's culprit: the St Kilda Police Citizens Youth Club.

You notice that ACMA are pretty happy that they caught one or two telemarketers, but never answered one of the complaints below; I also believe that if you are on the Dont Call Register - it means you DONT CALL but we know you are exempt if you are govt, fund raiser, pretending to be the ATO, pretending to be Telstra etc etc.

Yes, we've been getting one a night, after 8pm lately. We understood we were on the Do Not Call Register, evidently overseas call centres take no notice.

What a lot of people don't realise is that when we Sign Certain Contracts/Agreements with some Organisations, we automatically Agree To Be Contacted: It's usually in the Fine Print that People Rarely, or Just Do Not Read. And in some cases, there is No Option Out; it's one of the Compulsory Conditions.

Little Sneaky Trick, People:
When you realise it's a nuisance/canvasser/marketing call, walk over to the Microwave, and say, "Just a moment please, I'll put you through to somebody you can talk to"... Then hold the phone near the microwave and Press 2 Seconds & Start ... wait for the Beeps ... Then, disguising your voice if you can, say, "I'm sorry I'm not available at present, please do not leave a message".
Then, Hang Up ..... That Is, unless they have already done so before you have said it: Then Hang Up, and Have a Good Laugh.
