AACN supports a free and open internet to ensure patient safety and continuing advances in telehealth, online continuing education, and efficient electronic health records.

As nurses, we rely on internet connectivity to quickly and effectively monitor and access patient information and communicate. This capability is being threatened. The FCC recently proposed measures that would change the net neutrality we have come to rely on and give large internet service providers control over what we are able to see and do online, both in our private and professional lives. If neutrality rules are rolled back, internet service companies can grant faster access to companies and individuals willing to pay more and block or slow down those who pay less or who are not in a position to pay.
