The last few months have been incredibly difficult for everyone but especially small business owners. As we have tried to navigate the ever changing waters and do our best to keep our place afloat and our employees working, the cost of doing business is just too high.
It's been nearly 6 years since Brent Miller and I opened Tapcade, Kansas City's first arcade bar. We've done a lot and seen a lot down there and certainly learned a lot. While we were coming off a fantastic 2019, 5 months of zero or heavily reduced business put us in a situation where we had to make a difficult decision. We're closing Tapcade.
Just typing that seems unreal. This is a place we spent months building and designing. Our first wholly owned and created entity. Made only worse having just come off a terrific previous year but without significant government assistance, it's impossible to keep losing money.
There are so many people I could begin to thank here for their dedication and hardwork throughout the years but I would be remiss if I didn't name a few. Christyna Sanchez the lifeblood of this place for so many years who busted her ass to make great events and manage the place. Sarah Elizabeth Manning and Samuel G Duker two of our oldest employees who consistently made sure things ran as they should. Justin Roberts who was there swinging hammers with us from day 1. And Butch Rigby who gave these boys a chance and helped us wrap our head around opening our first place.
This sucks. It really does but to be able to continue Screenland Armour we had to make a cut and we took the weaker of two locations at this moment.
This is a reminder to support your favorite small places and to write your Congress and tell them we need relief and now. For all of my business owner friends who are afraid to face realities of their hardships, please reach out to me. We're in this together.
We will be open select days and hours the last two weeks so you can still smash the best damn burrito, wings and chicken sandwich in KC.
Thank you all for your support over the years. You can still support us and see us at Screenland Armour Enjoy a few memories including a young emo version of Brent and myself.
Thank you for being you.
