PACIFIC PLATFORM MEETING IN FIJI THIS WEEK
The youth in the Pacific have got stuck into the issues early today before the official opening Monday of the 2014 meeting of the Pacific Platform for Disaster Risk Management in Suva, Fiji. Organized and hosted by the Secretariat of the Pacific Community (SPC) and UNISDR, it will run for three days and provides an opportunity for Pacific island countries and territories, development partners and donors, civil society, private sector as well as other stakeholders to share experiences and knowledge in building the resilience of their communities to disasters.
The meeting is an important milestone in developing a new Strategy for Climate and Disaster Resilient Development in the Pacific to be ready by 2015 and to provide input to the new global framework for disaster risk reduction which will be adopted at the Third UN World Conference on Disaster Risk Reduction in Sendai, Japan, in March next year.
The gathering will also celebrate the achievements and review progress in the implementation of the Hyogo Framework of Action.
