Since Treyarch went to space on Friday, we thought it was only appropriate to pay homage to two anniversaries that occurred over the weekend...
Saturday, April 12th marked the date in 1961 when Cosmonaut Yuri Gagarin became the first human in space. Additionally, April 12, 1981 marked the first space shuttle mission, featuring Columbia (STS-1), which returned to earth on April 14th.
So, why all the love for space? Mostly, because getting to space requires the coordination of many of the same disciplines that we utilize at the studio to develop games: engineering, computer science, robotics, mathematics, etc. On a more philosophical level, we have the opportunity to make interactive/online experiences for consoles that possess more computing power than what the entirety of NASA had when putting the first men on the moon.
Seems pretty cool to us.
