Clausewitz was a Prussian officer who fought against the French during the Napoleonic Wars and wrote On War in the early 19th century with the intention of gaining a greater understanding of the dynamics of war. Furthermore, he sought to understand the nature of war so that future leaders could wage war more effectively and ensure a greater chance of victory.
To this day, On War remains as one of the most important books on the subject of waging war and is a must-read for anyone with an interest in military history.
