"Plausibility" has always been a key ingredient to the Call of Duty experience — as developers, we need to build a fictional world that could be possible. That means that we've got to be subject-matter experts. Whether it's the black operations that may (or may not) have been happening in the shadows of the Cold War (Black Ops), or the proliferation of robotic technology and the use of rare earth elements in the near-future (Black Ops 2), we need to do our homework — and that requires constant effort.
In our #ReadingList feature, we'll share books that have served as influential reading material for past games, as well as books/articles that are crossing our desks now. You never know what we'll pull off the bookshelf.
Today, we start with Wired for War by P.W. Singer, Senior Fellow and Director of the Center for 21st Century Security and Intelligence at the Brookings Institution. His work - notably Wired for War - was particularly handy when trying to paint a picture of what a near-future Black Ops 2 universe might look like.
Enjoy the read...we did.
