Today, we're introducing our Game Changer series, where we ask members of our team to share how their love affair with games began.
Recently, we posed Senior Executive Producer, Jason Blundell with the question, "What was the game that changed your life forever?"
"That’s an easy one; the game was called “Elite”. Growing up I had an MSX computer. It was a programmable machine, which played games on cartridges. You could also attach a tape machine and by inserting a tape game you could start the several minute process of waiting for the game to load. The machine produced interesting beeps and cherps as the code was loaded. Elite was one of the first 3d vector graphics games I had ever seen. The game was a space exploration and trading game. The opening screen showed each of the different ships in the game rotating one after another with the 8 bit music of “The Blue Danube Waltz” playing in the background. The aspect of the game that truly amazed me was the size of the galaxies and complexity associated with every planet in each solar system. Still to this day it seems amazing to me considering that the computer only had 64K of main memory. Early mornings and endless weekends were spent exploring the universe and upgrading my ship and defeating space pirates and Thargoids!"
