In the past 2-3 century these dogs lived all the time outside, helping the shperds. So they needed this hair to keep warm in the winter, and cool in the hot summers, and it saved them from flies also. So cutting the hair makes bad for these dogs. This is a beautilful and helthy one

A recent survey of American adults found 31% said they thought people should be automatically registered to vote, while 54% were against it

Traditionally, power on the USA is flexed by a select (but not small) group of people. This set now resents that the society is slipping out of their hands and views the democratic process as subversive.

"Automatic" registration is an issue because someone can fake an identity. It happens every minute with credit cards and other financial issues. And US states and cities are woefully poor at cleaning the rolls of registered voters for those who have died or moved away. We also have issues where residents of one state may have another residence elsewhere and try to vote in both. And what makes all of this worse is one Political Party encouragers voter fraud and attempts to undercut any steps to make voting more secure - such as vote ID. When President Obama was first elected - a black political action group called ACORN engaged in multi-state voter registration fraud on a scale not seen before. It was so bad Congress had to outlaw that organization from receiving any Federal funds in the future. But as often happens, that organization simply morphed into one or more other organizations intent on the same criminal acts.

Economic hardship, psychological exhaustion and scepticism about governments’ handling of the pandemic are mounting

As the pandemic rages on, so do protests about it

Covid-related demonstrations have been held in at least 86 countries in the past year
Giovanni Giusti, profile picture

it has become increasingly clear (see the latest Technology Quarterly) that the Covid pandemic is not much worse than the 1957 and 1968 flu pandemics - certainly not life threatening for those of us who weren't already life-threatened by illness or age.

The question of whether it's appropriate to respond to it with indefinite lockdowns is therefore increasingly political, rather than scientific. Is this how we want to live?
