I am a firm believer that the person elected to the office of United States Senator from Texas must be a Texan, and that non-Texans need not apply.
Notice I didn't say native Texan; I said Texan.
I am a proud 5th generation Texan who understands that while being born in the Lone Star State is a blessing not available to everyone, a Texas state of mind is, and even some natives don't ever develop it. (Cornyn was born here, so...)
The 17th amendment, which removed the ability of the individual State legislatures to control their Senators, went a long way towards destroying the original construct of this Republic, and will likely never be repealed.
That said; if elected in 2020, I will fulfill the duties of a U.S. Senator exactly as the framers intended, and the Texas legislature will no longer be on the sidelines, as I will expect their counsel and guidance while I am in office.
A U.S. Senator is no more than a liaison between his State legislature and the federal government, and is charged with a single overriding responsibility; to protect the best interests of his State, period. I intend to set the example for how that is done.
Around here, Putting Texas First is not just a campaign mantra.
Secession is not a bad option, people. In all seriousness, it’s probably the best option. We are too large, the Constitution has been dead for a long time, and there is far too much power held by just a few people. Maybe it’s time to have an adult conversation about divesting power and leaving each other alone.
