Alison's story
On Thursday April 10, 2014 my daughter Ali was diagnosed with a brain tumor at the age of 9. Her symptoms were mild starting on Monday, April 7th with a slight left drooping eye lid, Tuesday, twitching of her left eye and dizziness. When she said she was seeing double on Wednesday when reading, we called the eye doctor. The eye doctor knew there was something more severe going on. He thought it could be viral meningitis or a third nerve palsy. He referred Ali directly to Children's Hospital of Wisconsin on April 10th. When we arrived it was a whirlwind of doctors with as many as 8 specialty doctors seeing Ali and performing test after test for numerous hours. After a MRI and MRA (colored dye in the brain) the results came back as a golf ball size tumor in the pons part of the brainstem. This is the one spot where surgery is NOT an option.
Friday April 11th we received the devastating news DIPG. Diffuse intrinsic pontine glioma.
7 1/2 months later our sweet Ali passed away.
