Hello Dear Readers. This is Sue's daughter, Jamie. I am sorry to tell you all that Sue passed away last night after a two year battle with cancer. She was surrounded by family, including her devoted and adoring husband Steve. Although we knew this was coming, it was unexpected and fast. She had been fine up until just a few days ago, and then things moved quickly. Sue always said that she would continue writing as long as she had the juice. Many of you also know that she was adamant that her books would never be turned into movies or TV shows, and in that same vein, she would never allow a ghost writer to write in her name. Because of all of those things, and out of the deep abiding love and respect for our dear sweet Sue, as far as we in the family are concerned, the alphabet now ends at Y.

I’d love to see one of Sue’s friends write the ‘Z’ book. I can’t believe she’d not want her avid followers to have a conclusion to Kinsey. I’m going back to ‘A’ and start over again. Sad.

I was so shocked when I heard of her passing! Every since I read 2 of her books at random years ago I was possessed. So I searched all over , used book stores, library & so forth to finally read all of them and only waited patiently for W, X, & Y. After finishing Y, I feel a pit in my stomach wondering what will become of Kinsey? May you Rest In Peace Sue. I will miss you!

Dear Jamie, only just now heard this news, whilst searching for book 'Z'. I'm so sorry your mother died, my condolences. She's famous even here in The Netherlands, where I started reading her books around 1985. Soon I'll reread all of them, starting with A and joyfully work my way through to Y. Goodbye Kinsey, goodbye Sue - thank you for all those hours of great reading.

I'm so sad to learn of your loss. Perhaps it is appropriate that the series ends at Y - it leaves a bit of mystery behind for all of us.

Our daughter Kinsey is named for Kinsey Millhone....we had the joy of meeting Sue, she always remembered Kinsey and would bring us to head of line. She sent flowers when Kinsey graduated from high school. My heart is breaking to hear of Sue's passing, she was a wonderful author and woman. My prayers are with Sue's family and fans.

I am so saddened by this news. Sue will always be one of my favorite authors, and I remember fondly the day I discovered “F is for Fugitive” in the Houston Public Library. When I discovered there was A-E already written, I was in heaven. After that, I waited (not so patiently sometimes) for each further installment. And now the alphabet will end at Y. My condolences to all who loved Sue and her writing.

My deepest condolences.
A through Y, Sue Grafton is the best of her genre...hell, ALL GENRES.
With Kinsey Millhone, I raise a peanut butter and dill pickle sandwich in tribute to Sue.

My sympathy for your family's loss. Sue Grafton is my favorite author. I spent a lot of time just waiting for her next book to be published. The last year I reread the whole series and just recently read Y. I will miss Kinsey and Sue. I think Z is for ZZZZZ, a deep and peaceful sleep and rest.

This is a total shock! Definitely a huge fan of your Mom's writing. I'm so, so sorry for your loss. Funny how I was thinking of her yesterday and wondering what Z would be. This is definitely Z is for ZINGER! The alphabet definitely ends in Y for me forever. R.I.P. Sue and Kinsey. You have touched to many lives and acknowledged independent women's strength in so many ways. Now I'm going to go cut my own hair and put on my all purpose black dress.

My sincerest condolences. My wife and I have been faithful readers since "A". As new books would come out, we'd wait to read them until vacation (my wife and I were both college profs, so Christmas break was an ideal time); I would sit down with a new letter of the alphabet and read most of the day, well into the night, and start again the next day until I finished. It was impossible to work and read these novels at the same time!

Your mother will be missed, but we have Kinsey (and therefore your mother) each time we open any one of her books. I admire your mother's refusal to have a movie or TV show made out of her novels; we each have a picture of Kinsey, Henry, and all the characters in our mind and now we get to keep them just as we imagine them. A ghostwriter could not begin to capture the individual essence your mother so carefully imbued in them.

As you say, the alphabet now ends at Y.

Jamie, I am so very sorry, so very very sorry for your loss and the loss to our literary world. My favorite character in the entire world is Kinsey. Love Kinsey and her VW and little black dress. Sue will be missed. It think it is only fitting that it end with Y. Kinsey was still back there and we are here so that is a good end.

And she was soooo close to finishing! I'm sorry for your loss and I hope that you will follow your Mom's desires because the books are those types that make you think while reading. There are no movies or TV that can replicate what a good book can without cutting corners. Thanks for all the great work by your mom!
