We are the premier (and only) hurling club in Salem, Oregon and the surrounding communities. You can usually find us practicing around the area on Saturdays, and we welcome any newcomers who want to learn the sport.

WHAT IS HURLING?

Hurling is a team sport from Ireland with origins dating back over 2000 years ago. Skills are similar to those found in baseball, lacrosse, hockey and soccer.

Players use flat, axe-shaped sticks called hurleys to advance a ball called a sliotar (slightly smaller and lighter than a baseball) toward a soccer goal with football/rugby style uprights. Hitting the ball through the uprights is one point, scoring into the goal is three points.

Players can hit the ball with the hurley out of their hand, in the air or on the ground. Handpassing (hitting the ball with your hand) and kicking the ball is also allowed, but throwing the ball is not.

Catching the ball with your hand in the air is allowed, but you must use the hurley to pick the ball up off the ground. The ball can be held in a players' hand for four steps, then it must be balanced on the end of the hurley while running.
