So sad to share news of the passing of Larry Schokman, director emeritus of The Kampong, active in so many horticultural groups in South Florida – Tropical Flowering Tree Society Rare Fruit Council International Miami RFCI John C. Gifford Arboretum. He led our O, Miami Poetry Festival Forager Fete in 2014.

A moment of silence for the passing of the great Larry M. Schokman (The Kampong, NTBG). May you Rest In Peace scattered as ashes underneath the Baobab tree at Dr. David & Marian Fairchild’s Kampong in Coconut Grove.

We are all mourning the passing of our beloved friend and plantsman, Larry M. Schokman. May you Rest In Peace.

Dr. George E. Fitzpatrick presented at the RFCI meeting this evening “Making & Using High Quality Compost” & everything needed to care for the heaps. From George Washington's compost recipes used in MountMehr Vernon's "repository for dung", to modern backyard methods, he covered it all!

Including a story of the RRCI's founding in 1955, where we began as a Tropical Fruit Study Group! Fruits & baked treats were shared by society members in attendance at our meeting, held at Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden.

We are pleased to have Ms. Adrian Hunsberger as our guest speaker tomorrow for April’s RFCI meeting, her topic is Good & Bad Insects.

Ms. Hunsberger is the Urban Horticulture Agent and Master GardenerMehr Coordinator at the University of Florida, Miami-Dade County Extension office in Homestead, Florida ~ UF IFAS Extension Miami-Dade County. Adrian holds a BS degree in Horticulture from Virginia Tech and a MS degree in Entomology from the University of Florida. Adrian has over 13 years of research experience at the University of Florida using biological and organic pest control methods.
