KHIZR KHAN EVENT CANCELLATION
Late Sunday evening Khizr Khan, an American citizen for over 30 years, was notified that his travel privileges are being reviewed. As a consequence, Mr. Khan will not be traveling to Toronto on March 7th to speak about tolerance, understanding, unity and the rule of law. Very regretfully, Ramsay Talks must cancel its luncheon with Mr. Khan. Guests will be given full refunds.
Mr. Khan offered his sincere apologies to all those who made plans to attend on March 7th. He said: "This turn of events is not just of deep concern to me but to all my fellow Americans who cherish our freedom to travel abroad. I have not been given any reason as to why. I am grateful for your support and look forward to visiting Toronto in the near future.
THE PLAGUE-GROUND – A BILL TO KILL YOU
If you’ve never heard of Bill C-7 or recall only vaguely that it’s something Parliament is debating, it’s time you learned more, because C-7 can determine how and when you die.
Some background: medically-assisted death (MAiD) was legalized in Canada in 2016. The rules weren’t perfect, and anything involving legally killing people is bound to break people into opposing camps, especially doctors who take an oath to “do no harm” and yet who are there at your bedside, your angel of death.

MANDATING QUOTAS WILL ENSURE WOMEN HAVE A SPOT AT THE C-SUITE TABLE
Germany’s coalition government recently voted to enforce quotas for women in senior management of the country’s public companies.
Next year, management boards with more than three members must have at least one woman. This is not a company’s board of directors, but their most senior management team. In other words, the C-Suite officers with the real day-to-day power.
Germany did this because its volunteer program of persuasion, in place since 2015, wasn’t working. A September survey found that while in the United States, women make up 28.6 per cent of top management in the largest American companies, and in Britain they make up 24.5 per cent, in Germany only 12.8 per cent of the most senior corporate leaders are women. Worse still, the number of senior executive women in Germany fell by 21 per cent from last September to this.
It was time for coercion. In other words, quotas.

THE PLAGUE-GROUND – HELL HATH NO FURY LIKE A WOMAN-WITH-A-BIG-TWITTER-FOLLOWING SCORNED
Especially if you’re one of the world’s most revered ethicists on the use and abuse of AI.
But most especially if you’re the co-leader of the Ethical Artificial Intelligence Team at Google whose founding value of “Don’t Be Evil” was removed from the company’s code of conduct two years ago.
Given the lashing Google’s endured since ‘resigning’ Timnit Gebru last week for criticizing its diversity efforts, it may be time to bring that value back.
More productive, though, would be to ask why women whistleblowers are treated worse than men who rat out their egregious bosses. The easy answers are that women have less power than men in the workplace, and that tech culture in particular rewards sucking up and kicking down, and that the Harvey Weinstein scandal led to the rise of female whistleblowers.
