Who is OPEN DESIGN AFRIKA?
At Open Design we believe that collaborative Creative Intelligence is a SUPERPOWER. We also believe that every child and citizen should have the right to develop it and be empowered with future-making life skills so that we can collectively design a future world we can ALL feel proud to live work and play in.
As the Creative Capital of Africa and the Unesco City of Design, Cape Town is a perfect home for Open Design Afrika.
ODA Festival, Family Makers Weekends, and other events are curated to feature accessible memorable experiences enjoyed by people from all walks of life locally and internationally; those interested in or simply curious about design, innovation, and social entrepreneurship; it's also for designers and other professionals across different sectors; for students, educators, academic institutions, learners and parents; community projects; government and those who simply want to see and learn new skills and more about the possibilities and opportunities to get involved and help drive change in our society and in our environments.
(Not available during COVID-19) The Open Design City Wide Activation Programme supports SMMEs on a grand scale by showcasing the talents, products, and services of start-ups, small businesses, entrepreneurs, innovators, and change-makers to a broad base and diverse audience and thus provide them with the opportunity to network, consider new collaborations and increase their reach and build new audiences for their business.
In January 2018 Open Design TNL was registered as an NPC, which effectively took the festival to the next level as a newly structured social enterprise and a not-for-profit company that will continue to educate, change mindsets and behavior, inspire and ignite new ideas, share knowledge and experiences, support small business and start-ups and invest in community projects that are destined to make a difference and change lives.
Open Design Afrika has shown consistent growth since its launch in 2013. The long-term vision is to position Open Design Afrika as one of the most important Afrikan and International platforms that celebrate Afrikan pride and value on a world stage; celebrates Afrikan and global change-makers, unsung heroes, and more from various sectors that are improving and adding to the quality of life - actively driving and aligning with the UN SDG's (United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals).
Join the Open Design Afrika movement: a community of change-makers and future-makers where we collectively learn from each other, share and explore how the power of creativity, design and innovation can be used to mobilise social change and transformation in sectors like urban development, healthcare, education, transport, communication, agriculture, tourism and more to design a future world where people and the planet can thrive.
