Occupy The Trees
(The Mother Earth Tree Convention)

Occupy Eugene, in Solidarity with Occupy Wallstreet, calls for activists
around the world to protest the destruction of our Earth. For the week of
April 22nd, 2012 —which we rename Earth Defense Week: Occupy The Trees.

We face the prospect of irreversible climate change and the destruction of
our homes and wild places. Economic progress can only go so far when our right to clean air and water is violated; there are no jobs
on a dead planet.

Our Call to Action includes 3 main points:
1. Immediate attention and reversal to Global Climate Change which threatens all life on Earth.
2. Disruption of the Earth-destroying profit machines led by the richest 1% of the world and their government lackies.
3. Ending all Commercial Extraction from Public Lands in all nations of the Earth.

So...take to the trees. Set up week-long tree sits that call attention to
the destruction committed by the 1% on our rivers, oceans, fields, and
forests. Find trees in front of corporations that clear-cut and pollute
the earth, trees in front of banks that support those corporations, and
trees in front of government offices that ignore or enable the
destruction. Find trees that will soon be lost in the process of logging
or mining. Focus on the offenders who most threaten your home—particular
those who desecrate public lands for corporate profit—and chose trees
accordingly. Climb them!
We ask that those sitting for Occupy the Trees learn safety protocol for
properly ascending and descending. Please contact us if your affinity
group needs more information about the tactic of tree sitting. There may
be a climb trainer near you.

Please Re-post The Notice Of This Action As Widely As Possible.

Once the tree sitters & ground support teams are in place the rest of the day should be filled with speeches on environmental issues, theater, music, poetry readings, marches, protests, and all things environmental. Each tree sit location should have events going on all day.

Apr. 23, Monday; Casacadia Day
(Each Occupy participating in Occupy The Trees should name this day according to their own chosen local environmental issues.)
This is an international day of action. The whole goal of this day is to protest, blockade, and/or interfere with business operations of local corporate polluters and/or those guilty of causing environmental issues. Pick your targets, do all the legalistic on said target(s), make an action plane(s), and carry out the plane(s). Keep it safe, but make the best positive impact you can.

Apr. 24, Tuesday; Animal Rights Day (World Day For Animals In Laboratories)
This day is for all animal rights issues.
The day should be filled with speeches on animal rights issues, theater, music, poetry readings, marches, protests, and blockades. Focus should be one how native salmon populations are falling at alarming rates, how the BLM and other agencies have failed to properly manage wild horses, wolves, bison, and salmon. Also protest all issues pertaining to the testing of animal for scientific research.
Please include local animal shelters, and humane societies, by doing pet adoption & outreach events on this day. A pet medical clinic, and flee dips would also work well.

Apr. 25, Wednesday; Kids’ Day
This day is for telling the story of environmental pollution in the words and actions of children. Children are encouraged to make speeches, read poems, sing songs, do puppet shows, carts & crafts, about environmental issues, and so on. Adults are also encouraged to make speeches.
Children should be encouraged to organize their own mini marches & protests with minimal guidance from adults. The sign campaign of Occupy The Trees has been chosen to help personalize the idea that environmental issues do affect “me” personally. The signs should read as follows; Mary Loves Bees, Johnny Loves Birds, Jill Loves Flowers, Tim Loves Wetlands, Suzie Loves Fish, Sophie Loves Butterflies, Mark Loves Rivers, Larry Loves Trees, and so on. Each child should make their own sign with their own name and the name of something in the environment that they love. This day should be about fun, sharing, learning, and teaching.
